Privacy Policy
Effective date: 1 April 2025 · Last updated: 1 April 2025
1. Overview
8era (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website located at 8era.org(the “Service”). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our Service.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy is written in plain English so you can understand exactly what we do and, just as importantly, what we do not do with your information.
2. Files & Document Processing
All PDF and image processing on 8era happens entirely inside your web browser. Your documents are never transmitted to our servers or any third-party server. We are technically incapable of viewing, accessing, or storing your files.
When you select a file on 8era, it is loaded into your browser's memory and processed entirely within your browser tab. The result is then offered to you as a direct download. At no point does any part of this process involve a network request carrying your file data.
When you close the browser tab or navigate away, all file data held in memory is automatically discarded. We do not retain your file data between sessions.
3. Information We Collect
We collect a minimal amount of non-personal, aggregated information to understand how the Service is used and to ensure it continues to function correctly:
- Usage analytics: Page views, session duration, referring URLs, device type (mobile/desktop), operating system, and browser type — collected anonymously via Google Analytics.
- Error logs: JavaScript errors (if any) logged anonymously to help us identify and fix bugs. These logs do not contain file names or file content.
- IP address: Your IP address may be processed by Google Analytics and Google AdSense as part of their operation. We do not store or log IP addresses ourselves.
We do not collect names, email addresses, account information, file names, or any content from your documents. We do not have user accounts of any kind.
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy and data practices:
- Google Analytics — Anonymised site usage analytics. Privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
- Google AdSense — Advertising network that displays ads on our site. Privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your information to any other third parties.
6. Data Retention
Because we do not collect personal data, there is nothing for us to retain or delete. Anonymous analytics data is retained by Google Analytics for 14 months by default before automatic deletion, as per their data retention settings.
File data processed in your browser exists only for the duration of your session and is cleared from memory when the tab is closed or the page is reloaded.
7. Children's Privacy
Our Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to remove that information.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data under laws such as the GDPR (European Union) or CCPA (California). Since we do not collect personal data, most of these rights are not applicable in practice. However:
- You can opt out of Google Analytics data collection by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- You can manage Google ad personalisation settings at adssettings.google.com.
- You can clear cookies at any time through your browser's settings.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the Service or legal requirements. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
