How to Rotate PDF Pages: Complete Guide
Incorrect page orientation is one of the most common PDF problems. Scanners default to landscape mode, mobile scanning apps rotate pages based on how you held the phone, and presentation exports sometimes land sideways. Our free PDF rotation tool fixes these issues in seconds without touching the document’s content.
Why PDF Rotation is Lossless
In the PDF specification, each page has a rotation property that indicates its display angle. Rotating a page simply changes that integer value — 0, 90, 180, or 270 degrees. The actual page content (text streams, image data, fonts, vectors) is left completely untouched. There is no re-rendering, no compression, and no quality change whatsoever.
Rotate All vs. Specific Pages
Rotate All applies the same rotation to every page in the document — useful when the entire PDF is in the wrong orientation. Specific Pages lets you enter page numbers and ranges (e.g. "3, 7-10") to rotate only those pages. This is ideal for documents with a mix of portrait and landscape pages where only some need correction.
How Encrypted PDFs Are Handled
If your PDF is password-protected, you will be prompted to enter the password. The file and password are securely transmitted to our server over HTTPS, where the encryption is removed in memory using industry-standard tools. The unlocked file is immediately streamed back to your browser for rotation — we never write your file to disk, log its contents, or retain it after the operation.
Rotation and Printing
After rotation, the corrected orientation is embedded in the file itself — it will appear correctly in every PDF viewer, in print dialogs, and when the document is converted to other formats. You no longer need to adjust orientation settings in the print dialog every time.
