PDF to Word Conversion: Complete Guide
Converting a PDF to a Word document lets you edit, update, and reformat content that would otherwise be locked in place. Our free converter uses pdfjs-dist to extract text from the PDF and the docx library to build a proper .docx file β all processed in your browser.
What Types of PDFs Can Be Converted?
This tool works with digital PDFs β documents that were created digitally (from Word, InDesign, LaTeX, or any PDF printer) and contain actual text data that can be selected and copied.
It does not work with scanned PDFs β documents that are photographs of pages. Scanned PDFs contain image data, not text. To extract text from scanned documents, you need an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) tool.
Formatting Expectations
The output .docx preserves text content, headings, and paragraph breaks. It does not reconstruct complex PDF layouts such as multi-column text, tables, floating text boxes, or embedded images. For full layout-faithful conversion, Adobe Acrobat Pro or a server-based AI conversion service would be required.
How Encrypted PDFs Are Handled
If your PDF is password-protected, you will be prompted to enter the password. The file and password are securely sent to our server over HTTPS, where the encryption is removed in memory using industry-standard tools. The unlocked file is immediately streamed back to your browser for conversion β we never write your file to disk, log its contents, or retain it after the operation.
Tips for Best Results
- Open your PDF first and try selecting text with your cursor to confirm it is a digital PDF before converting.
- For documents with tables, consider copying specific table sections manually from the PDF rather than relying on this converter.
- After converting, use Wordβs Find & Replace to clean up any extra line breaks.
